For best results, exfoliate 3 times a week. Over and under exfoliating can lead to ingrowns and skin sensitivity. It is important to use wax-friendly exfoliation products. Ingredients such as oils, salt and sugar can lead to further irritation and infections. For more info, please ask at your appointment! Please be sure to discontinue use of all AHA/BHA/Retinoid products for 7 days before waxing.
Hydration plays a key role in healthy skin & hair. Dry, brittle hair is more likely to break during a wax which can lead to ingrowns and follicle irritation. Make sure you're taking showers that aren't too hot and hydrating fresh from the shower. Seal in added moisturize by finishing with a body oil. Please make sure not to lotion or oil the day of your waxing though as it may interfere with the wax's ability to adhere.
Two of the leading causes of ingrowns are sweat and friction. It is recommended to avoid exercise 24 hours after your wax in order to avoid irritating freshly waxed skin. Make sure that you're wearing either no underwear or a breathable fabric (such as cotton) in between waxes as well to help prevent ingrowns in your bikini line. Avoid sex, saunas, hot tubs & hot showers after a wax as well.
If you're struggling with ingrowns currently, please ask at your appointment how our home care products and a waxing schedule can help to clear up your skin.
Stray hairs can be normal when you're starting your waxing journey or if you've shaved/skipped waxes for a while. Your hair grows on different cycles. It is important to maintain a consistent 4-6 routine in order to maintain smooth, long-lasting results. If you have stray hairs due to inconsistency or shaving, it is important not to shave, tweeze, Nair or wax yourself at home to remove them. It usually takes 3-4 visits before you start to see a smooth wax.
Popping ingrowns at home is never a good idea. It can rupture internally and spread, causing scarring and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation or inflame it more. In the event of an ingrown in between waxes, the best thing you can do is to continue your at home care routine and have it safely extracted at your next visit.
